Whether we are volunteering at school, driving a carpool, standing (for hours) at a baseball field or going to one of those darn kiddie gymnastics places where you have to slip off your shoes (and quickly, before your toddler sticks his mouth on the drinking fountain), as a mom comfortable shoes are key. Now don't get me wrong, now that my kids are school age (no toddler chasing but lots of carpool driving), I have been known to sacrifice comfort for fashion. Many times. I have plenty of shoes that give me blisters, yet they are oh, so cute, and I continue to wear them. But when I find a pair of comfortable shoes, the kind that you can run errands in every day, I find myself slipping those shoes on the most. It's a true bonus if those shoes are so versatile that they go with everything, especially if they go with mint (you know, my obsession, see my previous post).
So last year when Sperry Top-Sider started showing up everywhere (especially Nordstrom), I fought the trend. Yes, me, mint lady, fought a trend! The Sperry Boat Shoe has been around since 1935 or so, but it is now a trendy shoe. I was reluctant to purchase Sperrys thinking that they looked like old lady shoes, they are a little too preppy and not so feminine. I was so wrong! I purchased this pair below and love, love them. This style is the "Angelfish" which I highly recommend.
Sperry Top-Sider Angelfish Boat Shoe
They have great arch support, and I am able to wear them for days on end. It's great that they just slip on so they are perfect for the zillion times I have to run out the door each afternoon and evening to shuttle my kids to their activities. They are perfect to slip off for a kiddie gymnastics class, too.
I love the style and color I chose, but there are so many different colors and patterns for the Angelfish, not to mention that there are other styles of Sperrys as well. You cannot go wrong. Plus, they look great with shorts, capris and jeans, and dare I say, they will transition to fall too.
One thing to note is that they run large. I took a 1/2 size smaller that my normal shoe size, and they have stretched a little too. So go at least 1/2 size down.
So, last week at the mall I ventured into a Sperry Top-Sider store and was almost tempted to buy another pair. Maybe next year!
